Product Description

WONDERFUL, VERY RARE STRAND OF VINTAGE MERCURY GLASS BEAD CHRISTMAS TREE GARLAND. What beautiful old glass beads. We have not seen beads like this for a long time. Rich, vibrant coloration. Incredible detailing to the large, double indent beads. The strand has very large round shaped, double indent design beads, most likely German, pre 1930's, each measuring about 1 5/8" long, from pike to pike. They are silver, a tiny bit of color, pink, green, or blue, in the center of the star design indents. Little tube shaped ends, the pikes, like that of a feather tree ornament that the cap would be attached to. There also are large single hot pink and silver colored beads that measure about 7/16" each. The beads are all in very good vintage condition, as shown in the photos. We have tried to remove any damaged or broken beads, so they are ready to be used and enjoyed. The strand measures about 52" long, has a cardboard circle and metal twist tie at each end. Each glass bead would have been hand blown in countries such as Germany, Czechoslovakia or Japan before and after WW II. Imports into the U.S. then began again in the late 1940's, into the 1950's. Many Czech glass beads can be much earlier, dating pre-war. The large indents are very early examples of this extraordinary craftsmanship. Again, these are very unusual beads that we rarely see any more. For more information and history on vintage Christmas items, visit The Golden Glow of Christmas Past web site.
